What it is

The cornerstone of the school day.

If education is primarily a discipleship effort, Together Time is where the day begins — a time for all ages to come together in worship of God and in forming hearts to love what is true, good, and beautiful.

Each day's plan is arranged in a gospel shape: God speaks to us through His Word, and we respond to Him in worship — recognizing His greatness, confessing our sins, receiving His Word, and resolving to obey. Re-telling the story of the gospel this way, every day, trains our children's hearts as well as their minds.

Together Time takes about 30 minutes a day, with a shorter time (closer to 10 minutes) on Fridays. Like the rest of the curriculum, the plans are 150 days long — 30 weeks — leaving room to add holiday plans like our Festival Weeks.

What Is Together Time?

Four volumes

One volume for each time period.

  • Volume 1

A year of hymns and prayers of the Early Church, Scripture memory, catechism & creed — and then a single “beauty subject” (much from the 1600s) on a four-day loop: poetry, picture study, music appreciation, or Shakespeare.

  • Volume 2

A year of hymns and prayers of the Middle Ages & Reformation, Scripture memory, catechism & creed — and then a single “beauty subject” (much from the 1700s) on a four-day loop: poetry, picture study, music appreciation, or Shakespeare.

  • Volume 3

A year of hymns of the 1800s and prayers of the Reformation, Scripture memory, catechism & creed — and then a single “beauty subject” (much from the 1800s) on a four-day loop: poetry, picture study, music appreciation, or Shakespeare.

  • Volume 4

A year of hymns of the 20th Century and prayers of the Puritans, Scripture memory, catechism & creed — and then a single “beauty subject” (much from the 1900s) on a four-day loop: poetry, picture study, music appreciation, or Shakespeare.

Worship through the ages

Singing and praying with the church across the centuries.

Together Time roughly follows the historical time periods of the Living Heritage cycles, so that while your children study history, they're also singing the hymns and praying the prayers of believers who lived in that time — and studying its art and music.

Even if you don't use Living Heritage, over four years, the hymns and historic prayers walk chronologically through the ages: from the Early Church to the Middle Ages, the Reformation, the 17th- and 18th-century Puritans, the 1800s, and finally the modern church. Your family worships as one with the church through the ages, world without end.

  • ~30 minutes a day, shorter on Fridays
  • 150 days of plans (30 weeks)
  • All ages together — one plan for the whole family
  • Gospel-shaped daily liturgy
  • Hymns & historic prayers from the period
  • Sacred art & music of the era
  • One volume per cycle (four in all)
