Mind-to-Mind Education

Group III is independent work. The student reads, narrates (more in-depth written and still some oral), and brings questions to the dinner table. Mom's job becomes curating, checking, and discussing. The student connects mind-to-mind with the best authors in theology, literature, history, etc, throughout time.

  • Theology & philosophy

    In addition to their personal Bible reading — which we build into the plans because it's the most important thing they read — students study various theological topics by grade: Fundamentals of Christian Living + Gender Roles (Gr 9), Biblical Counseling, Philosophy of Ideas, + Worship (Gr 10), Apologetics + Ethics (Gr 11), Systematic Theology + Issues in Culture (Gr 12). Students read primary sources like Augustine's Confessions, Bunyan's Holy War, Isaac Watts' A Guide to Prayer, and Puritan books like Rare Jewel of Christian Contentment and others as well as classic texts on theology and philosophy like R.C. Sproul's Ideas Have Consequences and J.I. Packer's Knowing God. Continuing Together Time catechism, creeds, hymns, prayers, and Scripture memory with the family.

  • History — three streams

    American (Land of Hope, Great Course US History, biographies) — from the explorers to the present day — that fights the current cultural woke-narrative, concurrent British (Great Tales from English History), and an ancient/world stream from Old Testament times through the Reformation. Students also keep up with current events. Primary sources mixed in, various written narration prompts (premium), with a distinct emphasis on church history.

  • Government & Economics

    High school students continue with guided readings of Plutarch's Lives plus living books about conservative government and economics like The Thousand Year War in the Mideast. Twelfth-graders study the Constitution, the The Roots of American Order, and formal free-market economics.

  • Literature

    We dive into the classics in high school with a classic epic every year — always taught by a Christian guide — digging deeper into guided Shakespeare, guided poetry reading, and classic novels, essays, and short stories. Reading is keyed to the cycle's era. Students always connect with the books first — then the written or audio guide helps them dig even deeper in their appreciation for the great works of literature.

  • English

    We believe in preparing kids not only for college writing but, more importantly, to be good communicators. Building on the foundation of written narration from Group 2, we teach editing, outlining, essays, creative writing, argumentation, organization, tools and formatting (MLA & Turabian) and more — and it all culminates in our Senior Thesis Research & Writing Course (premium plans).

  • Five science options

    Earth Science, Biology 1, Biology 2/Anatomy, Chemistry, Physics (math-light and math-heavy). All young-earth, all full-credit, all living-books based, all with video helps. All have labs except Biology 2. All included with your cycle. Sold à la carte too.

  • Math

    We offer several options for our suggested math sequence: Algebra I (Gr 9), Geometry (Gr 10), Algebra 2 with Trigonometry (Gr 11), and either Calculus OR Biblical Stewardship & Finance (Gr 12). You choose from parent-led book options, self-paced video options, or live online or asynchronous Charlotte Mason style class options.

  • Geography

    Travel across all 7 continents through living geography readings (e.g., Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage, Travels in the Interior of Africa) and mapwork. Once or twice a week.

  • Art & Music

    Formal art history and apologetics (e.g., Rembrandt Is in the Wind, Art and the Bible) and fascinating Great Courses music history lectures (How to Listen to and Understand Great Music). One each semester once a week.

  • Foreign Language

    Biblical Greek at the high school level through an online Greek course (included) taught by Dr. David Hutchison and Greek story and Bible readers. We feel passionately that if students learn to translate anything, it should be Scripture. We also offer options for Latin, Spanish, and French.

About the science

All five high-school science courses — included.

Both living book and young-earth high school lab sciences are a priority for us. We couldn't find any that met our expectations, so we created them from scratch. Five full-credit, year-long courses, all built around biblical apologetics and literal six day creation, using books that grip the imagination and fill students with wonder. Labs are kitchen-friendly.

Earth Science, Biology 1, Biology 2 (Anatomy & Physiology), Chemistry, Physics (math-light or math-heavy options). Take them in any order, with two prerequisites: Biology 2 follows Biology 1, and the math-heavy Physics is best with or after Algebra 2. Chemistry math has built-in video teaching.

All five are included in every Living Heritage cycle. They're also sold à la carte for $59 each if you're using a different overall curriculum and just want the science.

Group III works mostly independently. Lessons are about 30-45 minutes. Two days a week 12th-graders swap Greek for Government & Economics, and they add Senior Thesis Research & Writing.
